Hi Guys,
I am the Chairperson of Recreational Fishing Services(RFS), a section 21 company, non -profit organisation who represent all forms of recreational fishing. We have been active mainly in the Wertern Cape and Northern Cape since 2003. We have only just become National, due to the proposed increases in permit fees for the various fishing genres. I am sure most of you have heard and I see this website has started a petition.
iN 2003/2004 Kreef season , MCM , shortened the season to the end of January. After 3 meetings and a huge media war, RFS managed to convince MCM to give 2 months kreefing back. We have been involved with various other issue re fishing. However the proposed increase in permit fees has had an effect on the public that I have not witnessed before in, 12 years, of dealing with MCM.
We have a meeting with MCM on Friday 26.02.2010. The only way to sort this issue out is to engage them in meetings, and the media, and if that does not work, take th issue to court. We have won the 2 cases with MCM, in court. So it can be done.
That which I am about to say comes from 12 years of experience and organising petitions. I do not intend to upset the applecart, but petitions do not work. For the simple fact that the person receiving the petition, says he or she acknowledges the petition, goes away, and shreds it or throws it in the bin, or files it under file 13. All that effort by the persons organising the petition for nothing. Even the submissions we are to make by the 1 March 2010, I doubt that all those submissions will be read. I know of only one way a petition works, that is if you can get a Member of Parliament to table our petition in Parliament. If you need such a person I know of one. Although I would like to keep this out of the polical arena.
If the is a senior member of this forum who would like to accompany us to the meeting on the 26th, please let us know. If you would like more info or RFS's Constitution please contact us at,

There are approximately 3 million anglers in SA, who contribute R18 billion a year to the economy, that is more than rugby, soccer and cricket put together, . Join us in this fight. If we all form under one organisation, we will eventually regulate our own sport. Stop bitching and moaning, and threatening to stop fishing, or threatening to poach etc, rather do something. If we do not stand up for our rights now, we will end up like Zimbabwe.
Tight lines
