Ok,I think you have waited long enough LOL

We left Friday @ 8pm took our time down to Langebaan, I was tired and you mos know the other 2 smurfs were sleeping while I was driving, So I started to pull amps and strayed 2m on the road. Greedy Smurf (Ghiem) says captain laat Riyaad ry jy gaan ons vrek ry LOL. I pull over and he takes the wheel. I put my head down and I’m gone. Only wake up in Langebaan when we had to pump. Lekker mislik I say lets just get done I want to go sleep. We start pumping , the water is warm. I tell them here’s fish here. As soon as we done pumping I’m gonna make a gooi. Sleepy Smurf(Riyad) reckons the fish don’t bite at night in the lagoon from the side. We get our prawn and I’m already rigged up. So I walk in so 100m standing waist high in the water. I forgot to take a rope , so I make a throw ,shallow, I hear this activity in the water and I’m think shark.

I look closer I see it’s a shoal of sardine ,mullet jumping about. I’m rigged with 110H rod , torium 14 and size 1 circle hook. I can’t catch a sardine. Make a long cast, immediately get bites. Land a small stump I release him. 2nd throw I get 1 of so 28cm. I released it and walk out to get the rope. Die ander 2 slaap. Greedy se captain wat kind. I say 2 stump and 1 DAS of 33cm. They rig up instantly and we walk in again. Water is pushing.

We throw get bites but the fish is smaller so 20cm. We releasing them, 3rd throw I reel in the slack and MA SE, my rod say bend and this thing takes off. I tighten the drag and put the ratchet on and the fish stops momentarily, f%^&*s off again. I say KOB. I have to tighten and loosen all the time as I only have 8kg line on. After the 3rd run I changed my mind to Steenbras. This thing ran 5 times and cut me off on the buoy and boat in front of me. Also thought it was a Shark but it didn’t shake his head just ran straight and stopped and ran again and again. Thought it could be a 5kg elf but it would have bitten the trace on the initial run.

Walk back to the bakkie a broken man with frayed line. They fished the prawn finish but no keepers. I rigged up the reel with new line and the spare, luckily I did it came in handy later. I made the knot wrong on the torium 14 that Dulla showed me costing me a massive overrun the next morning. But we’ll get to that in a bit.

Get to the line 02h00 we so ¼ from the gate. We take a sleep. We were under prepared for this trip as we didn’t have cushions, chairs, forgot sunblock and we got lekker gebrand.

04h30 Greedy wakes up checks there are plenty cars behind us. What happened next we still sleeping and the security knocks on the window, wakes us up.

We see everyone is in and we the last to get in. Lines in @ 06h00 cos they threw guys out for fishing before that. Get to our spot and it’s taken so we stand 3 cars behind our spot. I make a cast, Just land, get a bite stump so 28cm release him.

06h00 comes and we cast we get fish after fish. By 09h00 things slowed down a bit,and we had breakfast.

Caught my fish on number 4 circle gamatsu hooks. Shukran Dulla for showing me the last time how to fish them. The water was warm making the fish lethargic so they didn’t bite hard but sucked the bait, but the circle hooks was deadly for this. I just cast reel in the slack and put it in the rod stand. In the beginning I lost quite a few by taking the rod too early, so decided after 4-5 bites or they pull the rod down then pick up and reel in. I made a poor knot on the torium and had a big overrun. Switched reels to saltist where the same knot was done, but the right way(Dulla’s Knot).

We saw this guy Ranchaw landing a 1.7kg stump on black mussel. We made friends with him so he should sign up on the site soon.

Sleepy gets bitten by a Crab(deadliest catch LOL) hulle het amper sy toone af gebyt. Then he still gets gesteek by the stompe laying in the bag. Sy rug en mag is seer van amal die fish wat hy gevang het.

We all caught our quota of 10 fish

So after we pump we get back and it’s dead. I rig up a prawn, 5 min rod bends and vas with so 1kg. Then again throw didn’t even get to sit right again vas. Then everyone started throwing. Then another 2 vans stood next to us, then it was 12h00 and Sleepy’s turn he was vas all the time and I don’t land a fish between 12h00 and 14h00 but I already had 8 fish @ 2pm. So I decide wait I must make a plan, start catching them again we lost plenty fish between the 3 of us, me probably only 5 in the water. Sleepy lost about 8-10 fish and some that came out of the water and then lost it. Greedy also lost a lot 7 or so.

This guy next to us caught a 1.8kg on chokka bait on a 9ft rod, that fished hammered him. I still went to fetch the fish for him, By 3pm Greedy’s turn to be on the fish . We released the smaller ones.

Riyad got a DAS of 0.92kg and got 3rd prize (screwdrivers). We stopped fishing @ 18h00 to go to the weigh in. Me and Riyad pack the bakkie but Greedy bly vis. We had to literally drag him away. We only left cos we wanted to weigh the DAS in.

A great day of fishing.

My 7ft rod had a big stump which I lost in front. Hy het darem gebuig.

At the weigh in the biggest fish with R2000 was 1.86kg then 1.82kg and Ranchaw 3rd with 1.7kg , the other guy never weighed his one in.

2 kob caught 2nd place 1.4kg and 1st either 1.6 or 1.8kg.

Whoever wasn’t there missed out big time. Also we were told to convey the message to those who fished in the comp. Those that never came and didn’t let the Alfie or the other guy know they not coming is off the list as there were people who wanted to fish but couldn’t because of the quota system. Next comp if anyone has a line in the water before 06h00 , he will be escourted out of the bharbour and cannot fish in any comp there again in the future.
