Thanks to Oom Daisy:
It is quite normal this time of the year to get strong winds in the afternoon and cold fronts passing south of the Cape.Normally with an approaching front, the fish go off the bite in the lagoon,or rather, they move on to another spot. This might be the reason why Spreeuwalle produced very large Stumps and Cob above 10kg this week. However, down on the Line a Elf in excess of 5kg was caught and weigh in at the LYC..on the notice board for all to see.The water at the Island is cold, too cold and Stumps are "one/two",meaning other species are also unproductive there. From the Yacht Club and south, the temerature is 18 deg and the fish are there, but it requires some patience.Lientjiesklip also produce at the moment and a good option is to go for Kolstert and Stump from the 2nd rock, that`s the one on the Mykonos side of the camping grounds. The rocks close to Paradise beach is an option for good size Stumps and so is the corner at the Iron Ore jetty. But it`s a long walk.Cob are certainly at Spreeuwalle.Smooths are not really around so the Spit is not a good option now, water is also too cold there.
Low tide is at the "wrong" time for pumping prawn, but excellent in terms of fishing for those who want to fish around the turn of the tide.Mornings should be fairly calm and one can expect wind as from mid day.Bait must be big prawn for Stumps and pilchard for all else.White mussel works, but the catch rate will be lower,so maybe get your prawn at mid day a day earlier.I`m sure the freezers are empty and catches were poor along the Eastern side,so maybe it is a good option to take a drive out to the Baan and at least get a fry...
