On Saturday 2010/02/06 Reza, Wep, Andrew (visiting guest from Zimbabwe) and myself had a fantastic day at Strandfontein. In total we had 20 pick-ups and landed 14 fish. Although the wind was not playing along, the "best fishing day" forecast was spot on.
The fish landed were as follows:
Reza, Smooth hound of 75cm, Diamond ray of 155cm, weighing in at 34.2kg, a hammerhead of 79cm and a small bronzie of 25kg.
Andre, 2 bronzies both in the 25kg range. This is his first shark he had ever caught.
Wep a monster of a black stingray of 178cm weighing in at 184.6kg, 3 bronzies of 30kg each and a duckbill of 79cm weighing in at 8.8kg.
I landed a hornback ray of 79cm weighing in at 9.5kg and 2 bronzies also in the 30kg range.
Between Wep and myself we were pick-up by huge sharks on 6 occasions which resulted in the sharks bitting the 200lbs in half.
All the fish were safely released.
A huge thumbs-up for T-Line stepped tapered leaders. We used the average of 0.85 to 1.50mm. These leaders took a lot of punishment from massive sharks and held under emmense pressure and strain. Only a shark teeth could break the leaders.
The first picture is a Wep fighting the back stingray which lasted 50 minutes.
