Recently Samspaul spent a couple of days at Mapelane, south of St Lucia estuary. Besides enjoying the break from work he also had good catches. Here are some of his pictures. Nice going Paul.

We had an awesome time there, I would seriously recommend to anyone else wanting a trip to the zululand coast, camping is my preference there, you can also hire a freezer so keeping bait and perishables fresh is not really a problem but the cabins are very comfy, if (and when) it rains makes the experience a little more pleasant.
Feel free to contact me if you do want more information, it is my favourite place to go for a good break away....
(and thanks Martin for helping upload the pics)

Beautiful pics Paul and some really awesome catches. Those fish you caught (the bream) look a lot like "moonies" as we used to call them in the Eastern Cape. Am I right or wrong here guys?

Hi AJ, the stonebream i caught are also known as Stinkys (Neoscorpis lithophilus) they feed on algae and plant material so when you open them up the guts really do stink....
That might help you....

Boet that sounds about right as the moonies did have a rather foul smell when you opened them up. We used to catch them in the gullies off the rocks in East London, Nahoon Beach area with very light tackle. Ai ek mis die plek man. My daughter is on her way to East London this afternoon for sports the little devil, if I could go with I would have but we unfortunately have a rather large function to attend to for this weekend.

the moonies Iknow dont get all that big (thats the problem with comon names) stinkys get to around 1,9kilos, moonys I know go to only 200grams if you catch a really big one.... but you may very well have caught the same guys. At first I misidentintified them as Galjoen, but later discovered this to be wrong

Did I make you a little hungry Martin....
Try Elf whole slice down the sides and put in pieces of chilli and garlic, a little olive oil and some sliced lemon inside the belly, wrap with two layers of heavy duty foil and put on a grid above a nice warm fire..... You will eat your fingers off again!!!

paul, take some crushed garlic and margarine and put it in a pot over the coals to simmer, once that becomes a paste then with a brush ,dip and smeer over the fish you braaing, preferably white musselcracker or white steenbras, the meat will be braaied to a golden brown colour and very tender, jirre that way you eat your hands off

Great catches and lovely pics.
Those recipes are also making me hungry - maybe send a few to Cyn and she can post them under the recipes (found on the main menu for those that missed it)
