Just received this on e-mail

Personal best Kob caught on light tackle (RELEASED) – Jonathan Timm I went to Haga Haga (Eastern Cape) this past weekend with a few mates.
The sea was quite cold and the swell was quite big. No luck in the morning, but at about 12:30pm we were scratching for blue fish and I managed to hook this beauty on light tackle.
I really didn’t think it was an edible. I thought I had fowl hooked a Raggy or something. At one stage the fish was swimming to the right, down the coast towards a huge outcrop of rocks, BUT to my delight it changed direction and swam in the direction of “scattered brick” to the left of where we were fishing. Luckily this beast stayed beyond the rocks/backline in the deeper water for the majority of the fight.
This powerful fish peeled at least 250 meters of line on its numerous runs.
The only way I could gain any line on the fish was to use the beach and walk back up towards the bush line. After 40 minutes or so, I managed to get the fish into the shallows. Seeing the large white underbelly from where I was fighting the fish from, I thought it was a huge Raggy swimming belly up. My mate shouted “KOB, KOB, BIG KOB!...”
I couldn’t believe my eyes!!!!! I was flabbergasted… I ran to my bag to get the camera. We took a couple of photos and took its measurement. I had my tagging kit, but in all the confusion and me wanting to release it quickly, I didn’t even think about tagging it...
After 45 minutes of reviving the fish in chest deep water, the fish had gained enough strength to swim off.
What an awesome sight, seeing such an awesome specimen swim away.
Tackle used:
Rod: Errol Homes custom made high modulus stroke 4
Line: 0.40mm / 11.5 Kingfisher Giant Abrasion
Leader: 0.60mm
Hook: 2/o Daiichi
Bait: Pink prawn

Fish Weigh/Measurements:

ORI calculations: 66 kilograms

Hi Guys

I caught that magnificent fish...

I have had enless amounts of negaitive comments on other forums relating to my catch, so before anyone speculates on the legitamcy of the photo and story etc please just ask me directly. The photo was resized, to reduce the size of the photo. So if you guys want a bigger picture, let me know.

Thanks

Hey Jono... I feel for you boet.

Unfortunately other anglers cannot appreciate or give someone credit when they catch a nice fish, and somehow they cannot handle the fact that the sun shines on someone else but themselves for a change.

We had a similar situation late last year, where they went out to discredit a size of a fish that one of our members caught.

Instead of making their claims on this website, they went out of their way to discredit the fish on other websites, so much so that certain members got banned from those websites because of the k@k attitudes, and NO, I am not going to elaborate....history!

If you did do the dishonest thing to brag about a fish that was digitally edited to make it look bigger etc, then you will have to live with it, not them. If you say the fish is what it was, then trust yourself without doubt, and fu@k anyone else who tries to spoil your party!

Yes, those big cobbies are very scarce and when one is caught, everyone should give congrats, as it is a once in a lifetime fish, why go out and try and discredit people just for the hell of it beats me.

Anyway.. great catch, keep the pics, frame it, hang in your bar, and piss on anyone who thinks otherwise!

This should also once again teach us all a lesson.... When we take photos, always put like a cigarette box / lighter etc. in the photo, and show a pic with the measuring tape in place. Then no one can discredit you, and If they do, then they are not worthy to hold their own fishing rod!

Another great catch and only congratulations should be made. Thank you for sharing this amazing story with us, and I have taken the liberty of adding it to the Daiwa catch competition as well...such a huge cob on only a 2O hook and prawn bait.

Here is a pic of the cob being released

Jono,congrats on that huge cob.
Well done for taking the time and effort to revive and released it safely.
That is the best part of catching such a huge fish is to see it swim away.

well done again.

Congratulations Jono

It's a truely masterfull catch and something to be proud of 100%. The fact that you released it makes it an even greater acheivement. I happened to read some of the critisism on another site and all I can say is "foeitog" for being such a bunch of sore loosers. Funny how things suddenly became "ok" when you posted the other pics and all the big talkers swallowed more than just their words. Idiots!

Haga Haga holds many fond memories of my childhood years with my late dad and family, so seeing the pic, reading the story tingled a little something that was nearly forgotten, so Thank you for that and keep up the good name of the sport.

Well Done!
