Reopted by SAPA

A five metre long shark has been spotted at a beach in Plettenberg Bay, on Saturday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.

Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said the shark was seen at the Lookout Beach about 150 metres off-shore.

According to Lambinon, surfer Matt O'Carrol said that he and three other surfers were in the water when the shark approached them in the wave line.

The shark is suspected of being a Bull Shark or Zambezi Shark.

The other three surfers caught the next wave in but O'Carrol, who was surfing further out, found his path to the beach blocked by the shark. He eventually also managed to get safely to shore.

"Matt believes the shark was chasing them out of the water," he said adding that no one was injured.

Lambinon urged surfers, bathers and paddlers to exercise caution in waters as at this time of the year sharks were known to migrate closer in-shore foraging for food.

My Question - according to ORI tables a 5m Zambezi weighs over 2000kg??????????????

This would be absolutely amazing as the world's biggest Zambi was found in the Breede river and weighed a puny 450kg - and she was pregnant.

I think this was a case of mistaken identity...could only have been a GW
