Overberg Angling

The annual Struisbaai “5 Spesie” Rock and Surf Angling Competition will be held on 27 February 2010.

Overberg Angling is planning to enter a team or two to build some spirit, catch some fish and generally have a great time. Please add your names to the list in the Forum.

We invite beginners and experienced anglers to the biggest professionally organised fishing competitions in the Western Cape. The 5 species that will be targeting are Kabeljou, Steenbras, Belman, Musselcracker and Blacktail.

The 2010 competition will be the 4th held with number of anglers doubling each year. Thanks to our fantastic sponsors we can confirm that we will be giving away R45 000 worth of prizes and lucky draws in 2010. Our focus in 2010 will again be the development of Rock and Surf angling as a sport and relaxation (quality of family life) among the juniors and ladies. An additional focus will be the conservation of our sea resources.

We will have an Angling entertainment tent, bar, music, food stalls, music, etc. The entry fee is R130 pp. Ladies R50, Juniors U/16 R30.

This past weekend we took part in one of the best organised and supported rock and surf angling competitions in the country. The guys from Ashton Angling Club must be commended on organising such a superb competition, and the sponsors that supported this can be extremely happy to be part of such a great competition.

With over 500 anglers, including 120 juniors and 60+ ladies, this must be the biggest Rock and Surf competition ito of entrants in the Western Cape, if not in the whole of South Africa. Well done everyone for a great competition.

Overberg Angling entered a team, and we also had 3 junior anglers from the site with us. The day did not start that well for Amberjack and Martin when their rods went flying of the roof on the gravel road towards Suiderstrand with lots of damage to rods and reels. Luckily they still had spare rods and went back to fetch them, but I think they lost a bit of heart that morning. We managed to hook up with them later the morning and from there we all fished together.

We did not do that great with Wep landing 3 undersized Cob, Martin a small Dassie and Stef the only legal cob for the team, but we also managed a few other fish including a galjoen (Wep, released), Duckbill (Wep, released) and a assortment of sandies and pufferfish.

The bluebottels on Struisbaai plaat were out in full force and almost everyone got stung, some more than once. Although we tried valiantly we had no luck looking for belman, steenbras or bigger cob.

The prize giving was a great affair and it was super to see the quality and quantity of prizes. Congrats to Wep, Wynand and Katvis on receiving some spot prizes.

Next year we will be back again with a venegance, and we are hoping to have at least 3 teams entered in this super comp.

On Sunday the guys went looking for some toothy stuff and Wep landed a male Raggie of 56 kg

Volgende jaar is ver, dan sit hulle Galjoen ook by dan word dit seker die 6 spesie genoem. Volgende keer is Stef nie die Kaptein nie en Martin & Andre maak nie die stokke vas nie. Dit is wat mens noem n goeie begin en ons het baie tyd om te oefen tot volgende keer.

Die galjoen vervang die kolstert, so dit bly 5 spesie...Ek wonder maar net wie het die enigste vis ingeweeg vir die comp???? Duckbills en ondermaat cobbies tel nie!

Ek het nie die reels geken nie en So verskoon my asb ons ken nie die area nie. Sal nie weer nie Kaptein!!!
