The Park Rynie area is still fishing well as far as yellowtail kingfish are concerned. The Umdoni and Sezella areas are also producing a few of these fish and the odd pompano has been landed here. Garrick are regularly being caught in these areasas well. The Umkomaas north bank stretch has also picked up quite dramatically as water colour in this particular area has gone a little off colour due to recent rains.

Edible fish, mainly yellowtail kingfish, grunter and shoal size kob seem to make up the bags here. For those anglers targeting bigger flatfish, there are already favorable reports of brown and honeycomb rays as well as the odd sand shark. With these conditions it should not take long for some of the bigger shark species to converge on this area. Reports of garrickand kob down at the Sandspit at Port Shepstone suggest that things are slowing down a bit. Anglers targeting bigger kob at this time of the year have to put in a couple of hours at night to be able to get any joy.

Beside Ski Boats catching some good numbers of dorado off the deep reefs off Durban, quite a few have recently been caught on the shallower reefs off the North and South coasts. Further north, the Sodwana area has over the past few weeks produced some very good catches of marlin, at least two fish over the 300 kg mark have been accounted for and many smaller fish have been tagged and released. Fishing on the Aliwal Shoal and the Protea banks have also started picking up with catches of wahoo and tunny being reported.Divers have reported sighting the odd couta in these areas but to date none have been reported to have been landed. General bottom fishing is still going well when the sea lets up as there are still good numbers of geelbek and daga salmon around.
