Adrenalin Fishing - New Player Joins the Tackle Market

E-mail Print PDF

adrenaline_logoOne of my favourite fishing destinations, is the Cape Point Nature Reserve at the Southern tip of the Cape Peninsula . Living as I do in the City Bowl bordering the Cape Town CBD, the trip to the Reserve is a long one, and invariably takes me past Muizenberg, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek and the naval town of Simonstown.

During the 2006 season, on my way to the Reserve I frequently noticed a lone angler religiously spinning off a spot known as the Battery in Simonstown, an inconsistent area known to produce the very occasional yellowtail to those lucky enough to be there on the right day. I stopped one day in October to make this angler’s acquaintance, and an instant friendship was born.

Fishing Lipless Crank Baits for Bass

E-mail Print PDF

lipless4I have seen many lipless cranks in many tackle boxes that have never been used, the reason I think is that people buy them and do not know how to fish them and when they try them they get snagged.

Lipless cranks in the past have mostly been used for fishing deep points in a jigging style, and that is the way I fished them for many years, they have also been used for slow trolling.

In this article I am going to explain a method for fishing lipless cranks sub surface, in shallow water and near structure, and this is an explosive and exciting way to get some awesome takes and some big fish.

Rigging Heads for Sliding Baits

E-mail Print PDF

plaat_sat009 As long as the bait is bloody and the hooks are set proud you can use almost any fish head. We have found that the best heads to use are yellowtail, bonito, skipjack, shad and small shark heads. A very good idea is to cut the gill plates open to expose the gills, this will add more flavour.

The fresher the bait the better the results.

Sometimes, even if you have bonnie or yellowtail heads in the freezer box, you will find that a fresh head like a shad will produce a quicker pickup.
