Sliding a live bait sometimes provides a bit of a problem. Here is a great tip to help when sliding a mullet, shad or strepie on a steel trace.
Cut the tip of a cable tie at an angle so its sharp then stick it through the top of the eye socket of the baitfish so that it comes out above the other eye. All you are doing when piercing the socket is breaking a thin membrane, it goes through very easily.
Zip it nearly closed and then put your 8/0 to 10/0 circle hook through the loop from the front so that the steel wire aims away from the fish. Pull the cable tie tight and slide away.
Something quite important is to NOT flatten the barbs on the circle hook otherwise the livie might slip off. Another important point to note is to use circle hooks, J's might turn and hook the livebait thus preventing a hookup.
